Radon Testing

Radon is a radioactive gas that can lead to cancer and is quite prevalent here in the northeast. You cannot see, smell or taste radon. The Surgeon General has warned that radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States today. Luckily once detected, it can be mitigated. We are NRPP-certified radon measurement professionals.

How does radon get into your home?

As Per the EPA, any home may have a radon problem.

Radon is a radioactive gas. It comes from the natural decay of uranium that is found in nearly all soils. It typically moves up through the ground to the air above and into your home through cracks and other holes in the foundation. Your home traps radon inside, where it can build up. Any home may have a radon problem. This means new and old homes, well-sealed and drafty homes, and homes with or without basements.

Water Quality Testing

Whether your water source is public or from a private well, you want to make sure it is safe to drink. We can test for bacteria, nitrates, acidity, metals and hardness, and if you live near a farm or buried fuel tanks, we can test for pesticides and VOCs.

We perform a "flush test", where we run the water and flush the pipes for 20 minutes and then test the water. This gives us a clear picture of how clean your water is and what steps may need to be taken.

We can also perform a "first-draw test" for lead and copper. This water sample is taken the moment the water is turned on and checks to see if the water that has been sitting in the pipes poses a threat to you or your family. We recommend that you get this test done if there is an expectant mother or young children in the house.

Wood Destroying Insects and other Environmental Issues

During all inspections, we keep a keen eye out for evidence of wood-destroying insects like Termites, Carpenter Bees, Carpenter Ants, and Powder Post Beetles, along with conditions that may be conducive to future infestations. The presence of any of these species could portent more significant problems for your home. In addition to insects, we are on the lookout for evidence of mold or asbestos.
